What is digital accessibility?

Digital accessibility makes it possible to access content (websites, office documents, multimedia aids, company intranets, mobile application, etc.), regardless of how such content is browsed. Digital accessibility allows all disabled users to perceive, understand, browse and interact with the Web. It is also essential to elderly persons, whose capacities may change with age.

Digital accessibility helps ensure equality and is of political and social importance in ensuring the same access to information and online services to everyone, without discrimination.

Web accessibility is based on four major principles:

  • A perceptible website;
  • A useable website;
  • An understandable website;
  •  A website compatible with all assistance technologies (screen readers, magnifiers, suitable keyboards, etc.).
